很久很久以前，有个男孩名叫大卫。大卫照顾着父亲的羊群，而上帝则照顾着他。有一天，父亲让他送一些食物给哥哥们，没想到遇到了......

Long ago, there was a boy named David.
很久很久以前，有个男孩名叫大卫。
David looked after his father’s sheep.
大卫照顾着父亲的羊群，
And God looked after David.
而上帝则照顾着他。
Once a lion came to steal a sheep.
有一次，一只狮子出来偷羊。
Was David afraid? No!
大卫害怕它吗?不!
He killed the lion all by himself!
他一个人杀死了狮子!
Soon war came to David’s land.
不久后，大卫的所在的地方发生了战争。
David’s brothers went off to fight.
大卫的哥哥们上前线打仗去了。
But David was too youny.
但是大卫太年轻了，
He had to stay at home.
他只能留在家里。
One day, David’s father said,
有一天，大卫的父亲对他说，
“You must take some food to your brothers.”
“你得拿上这些食物去给哥哥们。”
So David did.
大卫按照父亲的话出发了。
He walked all the way to the top of a hill.
他走呀走，一路从山脚走到山顶。
David saw his brothers.
大卫看见了他的哥哥们。
He saw the king.
他看见了国王，
He saw lots of other men, too.
也看见了很多战士。
But no one saw David.
但是没有人注意到大卫。
Everyone was looking at the other army.
每个人都在看对面敌人的军队。
When would the battle begin?
战斗什么时候开始呢?
Then—across the valley came a giant.
在山谷那边，站立着一个巨人。
The giant was big and strong and mean.
巨人又高又壮，还很卑鄙。
“I am Goliath. Sent one man to fight me!”
“我是歌利亚。你们派个人来跟我较量较量!”
Shouted the giant.
巨人喊叫说。
“And if I kill him,you will be our slaves.”
“要是我杀了他，你们就成为我们的奴隶。”
The king asked,“Who will fight Goliath?”
国王问大家，“谁敢上去打歌利亚?”
“Not me! Not me!”cried the men.
“我不行!我不行!”士兵们说。
Then David said,
于是大卫回答道，
“Send me. I will fight the giant.”
“派我去。我能打败巨人。”
David’s brothers said,
大卫的哥哥们说，
“No! You are too small. Goliath is so big!”
“不!你太年轻了。歌利亚太强大了!”
But the king said,“Let David go.”
但是国王说，“让大卫去吧。”
The king gave David a big sword.
国王给了大卫一把剑。
David gave it back.
大卫把它还给了国王。
“I have my sling, “he said.
“我有自己的投石器，”他说。
Goliath laughed at David.
歌利亚嘲笑大卫。
“Come!”he cried.
“你来呀!”他大喊到，
“Let me turn you into food for the birds!”
“让我把你变成鸟儿们的食物吧!”
Was David afraid? No!
大卫害怕吗?不!
“God will look after me,”David said.
“上帝会照顾我的!”大卫说到。
The giant laughed again.
巨人又大笑了起来。
He made fun of David’s God.
他嘲笑大卫所信靠的神。
David picked up a stone.
大卫捡起了一颗石头，
He put it in his sling.
装在了他的投石器上。
ZING!
咚!
The stone hit Goliath between the eyes!
石头击中了歌利亚的眉心!
The giant fell down—dead!
巨人跌下去——死了!
“The boy killed Goliath!”cried Goliath’s men.
“那个男孩杀死了歌利亚!”歌利亚的士兵们喊叫道。
“Run for your lives!”
“快逃命啊!”
Goliathe’s army ran away.
歌利亚的士兵们落荒而逃。
The war was over.
战争结束了。
David heard cheering.
大卫听到了欢呼的声音。
He brothers lifted him up.
他的哥哥们把他举了起来。
Everyone was shouting David’s name.
每个人都在呐喊大卫的名字。
David was a hero!
大卫成了英雄!
David grew up to be a great king.
大卫长大后成了一位伟大的国王。
He looked after all his people.
他照顾着他的子民。
And God still looked after David.
