妈妈做了好吃的炖牛肉，Nicky想邀请一个爱吃牛肉的朋友来家吃晚餐。Nicky问了好多朋友，但是他们都不能来他家吃晚餐，Nicky好失望。妈妈的炖牛肉到底有没有人来品尝呢?

绘本内容翻译：

When Nicky woke up,he smelled something good.

What was that good smell?

当Nicky醒来下楼时闻到了很好闻的味道?

是什么味道这么好闻呢?

It was beef stew!

"I am making lots of stew,"said his mother.

"Would you like to ask a friend for supper?"

原来是炖牛肉。

妈妈说：“我做了好多炖菜”。

“你想要请个朋友来吃晚餐吗?”

"Yes!"Nicky shouted.

He ran off to school to find a friend_ a friend who liked beef stew.

Nicky大声回答“当然!”

他跑到学校去找一个朋友——一个爱吃炖牛肉的朋友。

At school Nicky saw Alec.

Alec was his best friend.

"Can you come for supper?" asked Nicky.

"Sorry" said Alec.

"I have to go to the dentist."

在学校，Nicky见到了Alec。

Alec是他最好的朋友。

Nicky问：“你能来我家吃晚餐吗?”

Alec说：“对不起!”

“我得去看牙医。”

At lunch Nicky went to sit with Carla.

"Can you come for supper? It's beef stew."

吃午餐时，Nicky去和Carla坐一起。

Nicky问：“你能来我家吃晚餐吗?是炖牛肉。”

Carla shook her head.

"I like hot dogs.

I like burgers.

I like pizza.

But I do not like beef stew!"

Carla摇摇头。

但是不喜欢吃炖牛肉。

Later Nicky went to the library.

Mr.Blake found just the right book for him.

So Nicky asked Mr.Blake to come for supper.

Mr.Blake was sorry, but he could not come.

"My family is going to eat out tonight."

后来，Nicky去了图书馆。

Mr Blake 帮他找到了想要的书。

所以Nicky邀请Mr.Blake 去吃晚餐。

Mr Blake很抱歉，他来不了。

他说：“我家人今晚要出去吃”

On the way home,Nicky looked for a friend to come for supper.

But he did not find anyone-anyone who liked beef stew.

在回家路上，Nicky要找一个朋友回家吃晚餐。

但是他找不到一个朋友，一个喜欢吃炖牛肉的朋友。

Nicky turned the corner.

There was a friend!

"Hi,Officer Gabel,"

Nicky shouted.

"Can you come for supper?"asked Nicky.

"It's beef stew."

But Officer Gabel could not come.

"It's my birthday.

There's a party at the station tonight."

Nicky走过转角，有个朋友在那。

你好，Gabel警官，Nicky 大声打招呼：

“你能来我家吃晚餐吗?”Nicky问，

是炖牛肉“”

但是Gabel警官来不了。

“今天我过生日。晚上局里有个生日派对。”

"Happy birthday,"said Nicky.

He headed down the street.

Nicky saw the garbage man.

But the garbage man never said hello.

He was not a friend.

And Nicky did not ask him for supper.

Nicky说：“生日快乐!”

他沿街道走下去。

Nicky看见了一个倒垃圾的人。

但是倒垃圾的人从来没跟他打过招呼。

不算是一个朋友。

所以Nicky没有邀请他来吃晚餐。

Now Nicky was almost home.

And he felt sad.

He kicked a pebble down street.

Nicky 要回家了。

他很难过。

他把一个小石子沿街踢下去。

"No one wants to come for supper tonight.

No one wants to eat beef stew," Nicky said to himself.

“今晚没人想来吃晚餐。

没人想要吃炖牛肉。”

Nicky 自言自语道。

“Boy!Do you look sad,”someone said.

Nicky looked up.

It was Mr.Cone.

"Maybe this will cheer you up."

“小家伙，你看上去很难过，”有人说话。

Nicky抬头看

是Mr.Cone.

Mr.Cone handed Nicky a post card.

Mr.Cone递给Nicky一张明信片。

Nicky read the post card.

He started jumping up and down.

"Hooray!"

"Bye,Mr. Cone!" Nicky called.

Nicky读了明信片。

他高兴的上蹿下跳。

“万岁!”

Nicky叫道“再见，Mr.Cone”

Nicky ran all through town,

past the police station,

past the garbage struck,

past his school.

Nicky跑着穿过整个城镇

经过警察局

经过垃圾车

经过他的学校。

Nicky ran all the way to the train station.

A train was pulling in.

People got off.

Nicky一路跑去火车站。

火车正在进站。

人们下车了。

Nicky saw her right away.

He pushed up to her.

His grandma hugged him.

"What a surprise!"she said.

"I see you got my post card."

Nicky立即看见了她。

他冲到了她面前。

他奶奶一把抱住了他。

她说“多让人惊喜啊!，我看你是收到了明信片了。”

And that is how Nicky brought a friend home for supper.

A friend who liked beef stew!
